POSITION: Youth Director, Grades 6-12
REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor
POSITION PURPOSE: Create a welcoming and supporting environment where young people can grow in faith, build friendships, and serve others with love and compassion
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan, implement, and continue to grow youth ministry programming for students in grades 6-12 and their families
• In partnership with the pastor, provide theological guidance for confirmation and high school ministry
• Serve as a role model to nurture faith in young people, living out the values of the ELCA
• Empower and equip volunteers and parents to carry out and articulate the mission, vision, values, and goals of the youth ministry program
• Create an environment where all people feel safe and seen
• In coordination with Kid’s Ministry, collaborate and overview curriculum, scope and sequence, etc. to ensure consistency across education programs
• Use multi-media to communicate and minister to the youth and their families and to the congregation (i.e. texts, email, group chat, newsletters, website, phone calls, announcements, etc.) in a timely manner
• Perform administrative responsibilities such as tracking registrations and payments for youth trips, programs, and events
• Maintain class lists, registration forms, and family contact information
• Engage with youth and families through participation in local community and school events
• Attend bi-weekly staff meetings, synod youth events, etc.

• Loves God; possesses a strong Christian faith rooted in ELCA theology and a desire to share that faith with others
• Passionate about youth and their families; willing to provide relational ministry to a diverse group of students and families; comfortable fostering relationships and communicating with persons across the life span
• Confident self-starter
• Skilled in training and equipping persons of all ages to share their God given gifts so that they may grow in faith and serve one another and the mission of God’s church
• Team player who is willing to take risks and try new adventures in ministry
• Demonstrates an understanding of confidentiality, mandated reporting, and healthy boundaries
• Willing to participate in ongoing learning to support personal and professional growth
• Supports and participates in the greater ministry of Lord of Life
• Perform other duties as designated
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree or 2-year degree with 2 years related work experience
• Cares for, understands and relates well with middle and high school youth and their families
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines
• Understands and maintains confidential information as it pertains to staff, members, and visitors
• Demonstrates competence in making decisions
• Knowledgeable of and supports ELCA theology
• Flexible and able to adapt to an ever-changing ministry
• Understands the importance of working with a team
• Musical ability preferred
COMPENSATION:
This is a 30 hour per week salaried position which provides continuing education and vacation. This position assumes 25 hours per week working with middle and high school youth and 5 hours supporting children’s and family ministry. Minimum salary $40,000 based on experience and Minneapolis synod guidelines.
